Multiple Semiconductor Mature-Process Foundries Plan Price Hikes Next Year, with Increases Potentially Steeper Than This Year
According to Taiwan’s Economic Daily News dated August 4, 2026, fueled by massive demand for mature-node chips driven by artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure development, coupled with broad increases in expenses for talent recruitment, raw materials, semiconductor equipment and capacity expansion, major Taiwanese wafer foundries are collectively preparing for a new round of wafer fabrication price hikes.
Fang Lue, Chairman of Vanguard International Semiconductor (VIS), publicly stated on August 4 that the company has officially commenced negotiations with customers on foundry pricing for 2027. He projected that price increases in 2027 will be steeper than those implemented in 2026.
UMC (United Microelectronics Corporation), a leading mature-process foundry, also confirmed that an upward trend in foundry pricing for 2027 is confirmed. The scope and magnitude of the price adjustments will be more extensive and pronounced compared with the second half of 2026.
Meanwhile, Powerchip Semiconductor has revealed it is closely evaluating operational and depreciation costs and considering rolling out matching price increases for its foundry services in 2027.
This signals that amid global semiconductor supply chain restructuring and sustained high cost pressures, the mature-node foundry market is undergoing an industry-wide pricing reset.
